Online petition: Say NO to GST Hike
Contrary of what reported on the media, the proposed GST hike from the current 5% to 7% (read: here) was vehemently opposed by the online community in Singapore.
Far from being muted and restrained, Singaporeans from all walks of life have registered their unhappiness on internet forums.

Quite a stroke of genius this announcement. Now this will increase spendings for the next 6 weeks till year end for big ticket items like houses,cars, etc. This will boost figures for Q4 and for year 2006 as a whole. Applaud!

Economic Depression is coming around the corner, possibly around the end of 2007 or early 2008. So its time to do something to boost up the economy as the momentum is starting, to make it move faster so that when the Depression hits this momentum would overlap it a bit, in order to
make it less painful for all.

This is evil - pure and simple. What a bunch of nasty bloodsucking mandarins! Poor need help - government has no money to help - so raise the worst tax of all, the GST. Brilliant idea - can only work in Singapore.
Elsewhere the people will protest till government realizes their folly!
